By Air
There are many low cost airlines that fly from all UK airports to many destinations in spain.
Shop around to get the best deals.
By Rail
It's really easy to travel from the UK to Spain by train. Take an afternoon Eurostar from London to
Paris in just 2 hours 40 minutes, then take the overnight 'trainhotel' from Paris to Madrid or Barcelona.
The trainhotel has cosy bedrooms, a restaurant car and a café-bar. Some bedrooms even have a
private toilet and shower... The next morning, take a fast modern train from Barcelona to Valencia and
Alicante, or from Madrid to Malaga, Seville or Granada.
By Sea
Two ferry companies sail year-round from the UK direct to Spain.
Portsmouth - Bilbao ( P&O ferries ).
P&O's " Pride of Bilbao " sails from Portsmouth to Bilbao
once a week in winter, twice a week at all other times, takes 35 hours
( two nights and a day ).
Normally, departure from Portsmouth is at 20:00 on Tuesdays and Saturdays and arrival at Bilbao is
at 08:00 two nights later.
Returning, the ship normally sails from Bilbao
at 12:30 on Mondays and
Thursdays, arriving Portsmouth at about 16:30 the next day.
Plymouth - Santander ( Brittany Ferries )
Brittany Ferries sail once or twice each week from Plymouth to Santander in Northern Spain, from where
there are daily trains to Madrid and beyond. With a new, fast ship recently built for this route, the
voyage now takes 18 hours, with departures usually between 08:30 and 12:30 - although the voyage is
shorter than Portsmouth to Bilbao, the sailing times normally mean you have to travel down to Plymouth
the night before ( or use the London-Plymouth sleeper ), so it doesn't
save much time if you don't happen
to live in Plymouth.
